The Likona Tower

The Likona Tower

The Likona Tower is one of the few buildings that were not burned down in the fire causes by the French army in 1794.

The solid, medieval house-tower is constructed in limestone ashlar. It belonged to the powerful Likona family from Mendexa, who settled in Gipuzkoa and held enormous power there. They were one of the most renowned members of the Oñacino faction. The mother of Saint Ignacio de Loyola belonged to the Likona family.
